CHATEAU PIPEAU is a family-owned estate, three kilometres from the famous town of SAINT-EMILION, which has been in the family for three generations. Today, Richard MESTREGUILHEM is carrying on his father’s good work by keeping the estate management entirely a family affair. The estate is managed according to strict principles, with carefully-dosed sprays against disease, cluster thinning to limit yields, leaf-stripping towards harvest-time in order to optimize the ripening process and careful sorting during harvesting. Thanks to this painstaking work, recent vintages have been endowed with exceptional qualities of fruit, together with greater aromas and tannins. Vinification techniques today combine tradition with modern know-how: 5 to 6 weeks of gentle maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, frequent pumping over and the skins are pressed in a traditional vertical press. According to the vintage, the wine is matured for between 12 and 14 months in French oak barrels, which are carefully selected and completely renewed every year. CHATEAU PIPEAU wine, which perpetuates its quality from year to year, is regularly quoted in famous wine guides and in the international Press.....From one vintage to the next, one of the strengths of CHATEAU PIPEAU is to offer consistent style and personality. It is a wine with expressive fruit, an opulent nose of red berries, roundness on the palate, with good length and a harmonious and elegant finish.CHATEAU PIPEAU is very delightfull when young but it also has all the qualities for laying-down of a really great SAINT-EMILION! Grape varieties: 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc.
